FDA reform, phen/fen
Publisher Location:[New York.
The Senate has passed a bill to overhaul the FDA, weakening its ability to regulate drugs and permitting it to act only after there is a problem. It is expected that this will make it easier for drug companies to promote drugs for unapproved uses. This ruling comes a week after the FDA removed phen/fen from the market, which is being cited as the worst drug disaster in the nation's history. Phen/fen is a combination of two drugs approved for use separately, but not in combination, and has been shown to cause severe heart damage when the drugs are taken together.
